Class of 2014
Curt Trowbridge - Curt Trowbridge played shortstop and pitcher from 1976-1979. Curt was a natural leader for his teams, including the 1976 Championship Team. That leadership garnered him the Tournament MVP in 1976. A sweet swing and effortless power allowed him to adjust his swing for any hitting situation. He was also a true 5-tool player in the field. Curt continued his baseball career after his playing days with Post 6 at Des Moines Area Community College, University of Southern Mississippi, and one summer of Semi-Pro ball in Ponchatulla, LA.
Kelly Steiner - Kelly was a part of the Post 6 program from 1977-1979. He was a team leader, the ace of the pitching staff, and the utility infielder. But, his comfort zone was on the mound. He was always thinking about what to throw next. He dominated hitters with command and location on every single pitch. Sure, the 1978 State Championship was great, but the highlight of his Post 6 career came in his debut performance in 1979 where he threw a perfect game, ending it with a strikeout. Kelly continued his baseball career at the University of Wyoming.
Don Olcott - Don is one of the best pitchers in Cheyenne Legion history. He was a hard-throwing lefty with great command who could also command his curveball and changeup. When not on the mound he manned 1st base. Don was a multi-sport star winning State Championships in football and basketball under the coaching of Okie Blanchard for Cheyenne HS.
Rick Scheer - Rick was a pitcher from the day he started playing in Little League. His accuracy and velocity silenced the bats of opposing teams. He played a role in making Post 6 a state powerhouse. In addition to his dominant pitching, Rick was just as good at the plate. His three-year batting average was .330 and included an average of 18 home runs in a 45-game schedule (before metal bats). His pitching highlights include 2 games with 17K's and 1 with 15K's, also pitching a complete game to beat Sheridan (eventual state champions in 1969). Rick continued playing baseball at John Brown University.
1949 State Championship Team - The Cheyenne Indians (later Eagles) went undefeated in 1947 and seemed to be on their way to the Sectional Tournament. But, a Rock Springs protest from earlier in the season was upheld, stripping the Indians of the state title and its perfect season. Coaches Andy Anderson and Police Chief Fred Schmoker and star pitcher Don Olcott returned to the team and led this 1949 team to a state championship. The championship run included 3 wins in one day and a 20-1 victory over Worland.
1974 State Championship Team - The Cheyenne Eagles finished the year with a 28-15 record then finished the state tournament by going 5-1. Hitting was the strength of this team as 6 players finished the season hitting over .300 with a team batting average of .291. The pitching staff held their own all season by holding opponents to a .272 batting average and having a combined 4.38 ERA. Ron Trowbridge was the leader of the team playing nearly every inning during the year either on the mound or at first base while earning the state MVP award. Rookie Mike Hartman was the offensive leader finishing the year hitting .412 as the starting third baseman. Members and coaches of the team were: James Ferguson - Asst Coach, Chet Dodson - Head Coach, Tony Crecelious, Kyle Swingle, Dan Delura, Mark Amen, John Hutchins, Bob Gerard, Ron Trowbridge, Chris Colbert, Jerry Gallegos, Dan Christopolous, Jeff Jenkins, Lloyd Garcia, Bryan Delaura, Doug Pilch, Matt Schoenenberg, Guy Cameron, Mike Hartman, and Gary Cameron.
