Class of 2013
Mike Hartman - Mike (known as Big Red) played for Post 6 from 1974-1976. He held down the hot corner as a starter all three years. He helped anchor the 1974 and 1976 State Championship teams and led Post 6 to a 4th Place finish at the Northwest Regional Tournament (the highest by any Post 6 team at that time). Mike made very few errors during his tenure making him one of the best (if not the best) third baseman in the state. Additionally, he carried a high on-base percentage and speed that allowed him to generate many scoring opportunities. Mike still resides and works in Cheyenne.
Dennis Bell - Dennis was the most feared catcher in the state from 1991-1993. He picked off so many runners that teams stopped running on him. By the time he finished his Post 6 career, he was the leader in Home Runs (Currently 3rd) and 2B. He was one of the best players in team history.
John Coleman Pickett - John was part of the original national organization of the American Legion Junior Baseball program. He was the first state representative in that activity. The first two State Championships for the Cheyenne program came under his guidance. He played college baseball and basketball at the University of Nebraska (captain for both teams). He then played pro ball with the Chicago White Sox where he once struck out Babe Ruth.
Edward E "Sticks" Hopper - Mr. Hopper was a lifelong fan of Post 6. He treated all players as if they were his own. He also treated all coaches with respect as well. He lived from season to season hoping for a return to the glory of the past. Simply put, he loved baseball and watching young men learn the nuances of the game while enjoying the day the Lord provided for the enjoyment of baseball. He never snubbed anyone, including those playing against Cheyenne. Sticks passed away in March of 2000 at the age of 87. Mr. Hopper served in the US Army from 1942-45 and then retired from the US Postal Service after 21 years there.
1963 State Championship Team - The 1963 team was the first team whose members had played baseball all of their lives. From the beginnings of Little League (1955) and Babe Ruth (ages 13-15) then to Legion. The team was young with only 5 High School graduates. Many of the boys played on 3 State Championship teams. Team members include: Bob Setbacken, Keith Hagen, Don Bartels, Ned Holmes, Mike Gregorio (1968 UW Athlete of the Year), Dick Gish, Tom Case, Don Scheer, Mike Bartels, Yogi Allen, Rick Morris, Herb Stipe, Bill Esslinger (killed in action in Vietnam in 1967) and Bud McBride (Arizona State baseball scholarship).
1991 State Championship Team - The 1991 Team not only won the State Title, but they were also the first Post 6 team to play for a Regional Championship. They won their first 3 games by beating Alaska, Washington and California. They then lost to Idaho and California in a 1 game Championship. Making this even more impressive - they only had 14 players on the squad. Members and coaches of the 1991 Championship team are: Greg Welch, Jarrod Morrow, Corey Havner, Jeff Hite, Dennis Bell, Scott Kalkofen, Shane Taylor, Shawn Chew, Lamont Oliver, JC Misplay, John Frantz, Chad Whitworth, Jade Lain, Rudy Apodaca, Kody Misplay, Jon Soderline, Tagg Lain.
